A dog-like pinniped family from the order Sea lions, Earedfoot, Iriculacaceae (Otariidae), carnivores (Carnivora).
They live on many rocky shores of the oceans in large colonies. They have not lost their ability to move on land as well as seals and have a body structure that can move easily on land.
Dimensions
The smallest members of the family are the females of some marsupial species, which weigh only 25 kilograms, and the males of the species Eumetopias jubatus, the largest of which can reach 500 kilograms. Males of Phocarctos hookeri species reach 3.5 m in length, while females of Arctocephalus galapagoensis species reach only 1 m in length. As can be seen from these numbers, the measurements in this family can vary greatly depending on the gender. For example, in species belonging to the genus Callorhinus (Northern walrus), males are 4 times heavier than females. These differences are thought to be due to the specific mating method in the family.
